Mayor Durham statement on amended Denton County disaster declaration
As the City of Lewisville takes steps to help slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community, I want to praise Denton County Judge Andy Eads for amending his countywide disaster declaration.
The new rules under this amended declaration go into effect at noon today. Those new rules call for the closure of all bars, gyms, theaters and amusement venues in Denton County. Also, gatherings of more than 50 people are prohibited; and all restaurants are limited to drive-through, delivery, pick-up, and curbside service only.
I fully support this action and will work with the Lewisville City Council to ensure these new rules are enforced in our city. This was a difficult decision to make, but these are unprecedented times that require unprecedented actions by elected officials in order to keep our residents, families, and friends safe.
I urge all Lewisville residents and businesses to follow social distancing protocols for the safety and health of our entire community. Together we will get through this.
Sincerely,
Rudy Durham
Mayor of Lewisville
